Film Lesson #4: Digital Versus Practical

In film, Special Effects, Puppets and Sets can be made-from-scratch or generated from a computer. The difference between them is made-from-scratch is self-explanatory, computer-generated takes a turn and helps make it even "better", or does it? Because sometimes CGI doesn't really look like it's there sometimes, somethings practical often seems more authentic, though it can come off as hammy. An example of practical effects is the Godzilla movies where it was always a man in a costume on set that looked like an aerial shot. An example of digital effects is Tron where the actors weren't really standing on the bikes because they weren't made physically.
